The Programme

Content

There are 3 levels in this training programme - Supervisory, Management, and Leadership.

The content has been designed to build on and enhance the experience of managers at these levels, providing new skills, insights, tools and techniques, to allow them to get the best performance from themselves and the rest of their team. Each programme is a series of modules that build on each other. Each module will require evidence of practical application in the workplace to achieve accreditation.

Leadership and Management will be a series of 6 training modules.  Supervisory is a series of 8 training modules. It is expected that those taking part in the Supervisory level are newer to people management, hence this being a longer course.

Dates

The series of modules will take place weekly, on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Each module will be 4 hours long, and will be 9am-1pm or 1.30pm-5.30pm.  Participants are expected to be able to attend all the modules.  Each module will be on the same day at the same time, to allow participants to plan their week.

The programme will begin on Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th or Thursday 10th February 2022, depending on your group.

Eligibility

We ask that a business applies on behalf of its employees - if you are an individual please speak to a Senior Manager to apply for you.  Candidates must want to take part, and businesses must be willing to allow them the time to do so.  Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this training opportunity:

• Must be working in the Scottish hospitality and tourism industry, and the employee must be living and working in Scotland.

• Eligible sectors - any business within Tourism and Hospitality, please provide information on the application form.

• Must be over the age of 16, can be at any level, with any job role.

• A business can apply for up to 25% of your workforce (please note, depending on numbers they may not all get to take part).

• Candidates must be working with you on a full time or part time basis, for a minimum of 8 hours per week.

Not Eligible

• An overseas national who is subject to an employment restriction or to a time limit on their stay in Great Britain or both except where the individual is a refugee or overseas national where the Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) which is provided by the Home Office shows they have the right to work regardless of the time shown;

• A person at the same time on any employment, education, training, or enterprise programme funded by any Government department or by SDS. For the avoidance of doubt Modern Apprenticeship is a Scottish Government funded employment programmes; Kickstart is a UK Government funded employment programme; and individuals who are in education at (i) university, (ii) further education college or (iii) school (in each case as solely determined by SDS) are in education programmes funded by the UK or Scottish Government.;

• A person in custody as a prisoner or on remand in custody;

• An overseas national who is subject to any funding restriction which would apply to the NTTF - THTDP.

Requirements to take part

This is an interactive virtual programme, so individuals must have access to the following to be able to take part.

• Computer / laptop / tablet device - with a camera (so we can see you on video) and a microphone (so we can hear you)

• Internet access

• Notepad and pen

• A quiet space to take part for each 4 hour session

• An open mind and a willingness to learn!

How to apply

If you are interested in taking part in this programme, please speak to a senior manager at your business.

We ask that a business applies on behalf of its employees, so that we can clarify the individual’s working situation, and check on workforce numbers.  Application should be made by the business owner, a senior manager, or an HR professional, who has permission to make all the applications for that business.

Applications should only be made for employees who want to take part, and are committed to spending the time and effort to take part. Businesses must be willing to allow the employees the time to take part for the full length of the course.

Please complete our online application form for each employee that you are putting forward.  There is some specific information that we need about the business, and each individual. Some of this is personal information required for equalities monitoring, so will require you to discuss with the individual. The information you need is:

• Information about your business - business name, postcode, local authority where this is (drop down menu), what your business does (drop down menu), contact details for the manager who is dealing with the business’s applications (title, name, job title, email, telephone), and the business’s current workforce number (state total numbers on full time and part time together - this allows us to check the criteria of only up to 10% of your workforce being allowed to apply), and how many people you are applying for.

• Information about the candidate - which category they are applying for (supervisor, manager, leader), contact details (personal and work email, mobile number), age group (drop down menu),  and job information (job title, current work status), gender identity (drop down menu), any barriers to this person being able to participate, and which of the days/times the individual CAN do - you must ask the individual about this as we will use this information to place them.

Applications must be received by midnight on Sunday 16th January 2022.

Businesses and applicants will be informed by Monday 24th January 2022 of successful applications.

Allocation of places

If there are too many applicants for any of the 3 categories, then candidates will be chosen to allow a good geographical spread of businesses around Scotland, a good mix of people from different qualifying sectors, and a number of different businesses.  If one business has applied for a number of employees to take part, if we cannot offer them all a place, we may ask that business to choose which of the employee(s) they would like to take part.

Successful candidates will be emailed with a form which they must complete before being accepted on to the programme. They MUST complete this by return or they will not be able to take part.
